In plane geometry, the crescent shape formed by two intersecting circles is called a lune. In mythology there are many lunar dieties, many of them as acting personifications of the moon. Interestingly enough, many of them are represented by the crescent moon instead of a full moon. This painting is a visual exploration in the shrouding or overshadowing of a lunar diety.
